@Anonymous wrote:Obviously I am brand new to all of this. I have had collections years ago but they were medical bills and I sort of never cared to pay them off but they were taken off my report a few years ago without me paying them. I was young and didn't even care about my score at the time. But I don't recall ever getting phone calls like this over those collections. They were just on my report as not paid and of course after the 7 years they were taken off even without payment. But I don't think this will go in that direction.
If this call was their first contact, they are required by law to send a dunning notice within five days. Do not call them back, and do not take further calls from them Wait for the notice, then send a DV with the request to not contact you via phone any longer.
Okay will do. And after I do this, will I receive letters stating I have to pay in full or would I be able to pay whatever I can pay? I'm just not sure what happens. Like I said I had medical bills I never paid and nothing ever happened but since this is the school I am sure they won't "ignore" it and I keep reading things like they could sue me or something.
Also, it still gives me the option to make payments via the school account. Should I continue to do that or not since they apparently sold my debt to someone else
If your repayment with the creditor was/is based on an agreed plan, then you have a contract that must be honored by the new debt owner.
The debt collector cannot unilaterally terminate that contract and demand full payment.
I just noticed a payment of $50 was taken out of my account from the OC yesterday. This makes zero sense. A collection agency called me to ask for a payment in full after the school received a small payment?..
It's been 8-9 days and I haven't received a letter from anyone..... Weird?

Could have been a scam. You'd be surprised at what info these criminals can ferret out.
I do know it probably DID go to collections though because the account on the school site says delinquent even though they are still taking payments. Kind of bummed about that though because my credit score is 717 now and it says if I get the collections it will go to 617.
