Help with collection on report

So I have a collection listed on my account. It's with ComEd which is a utility company. I would like to pay it off and get removed from my account but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. The information listed doesn't have the CA so I don't know who to contact. Also, since it's only for $126 is hurting my score a lot? Here is what it looks like on my report: The collection agency "410YC00206" was hired to collect a debt of $126 originally owed to "Comed 26499" on account number "XXXXXXXXXX". Collection agency [?] 410YC00206 Original balance [?] $126 Current balance [?] $126 Date assigned [?] Aug, 2010 Original lender [?] Comed 26499 Account number [?] XXXXXXXXXX Account holder [?] Individual So, where do I go from here? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with collection on report

You would need to get your reports from the CRAs to see the CA.  Have you got yours from annualcreditreport.com yet?

Or you can call the OC and see if they will accept payment and recall the debt from the CA and ask them to have the CA delete.  The CA doesn't have to delete but if the OC asks them too they might.

Or you can call the OC and ask who is collecting, call and offer them a PFD.

Thanks, I just went to annualcreditreport.com and was able to view my Equifax report.  The CA is Contract Callers Inc.  Would it be best to email, call, or write them?  Do you know how successfull people have been getting a PFD?

Re: Help with collection on report

I have never heard of that CA so I don't know if they do or not.

If you know the debt is yours you can just call them.  It would be best do get it in writing but if they won't and they agreed orally, you have that.

You know you can get all 3 reports free from annualcreditreport.com once every 12 months.

Re: Help with collection on report

Thanks.  I did a search on here for Contract Callers and I saw at least one person with success so hopefully it works for me.  I'm going to send out a PFD letter tomorrow.

Re: Help with collection on report

I found an email address for Contract Callers.  Would it look too pushy if I emailed them and sent a letter?  Should I just do one and wait a little bit?

Alright, I sent an email so we'll see how it goes.  I hope I at least hear a response.

Re: Help with collection on report

So I emailed contract callers last night and I received a response already. They agreed to delete the collections info from my credit reports if I pay in full. I'm putting a money order in the mail today!
