Help with gameplan

I've made some good strides cleaning up my credit with the guidance you've all so helpfully provided. I have a few more things left to do and I wanted some advice.

I have 3 lates (2 on Zales/1 Walmart, all 30 days) from early last year that I have sent one round of GW letters out towards. I haven't heard anything from Walmart but Zales put the entire account in dispute with the CRAs. I have no idea why, as my letter was clear and didn't dispute anything. I'm guessing it was just skimmed and misunderstood, maybe?

Anyway, should I GW them again after the initial dispute clears? It's my oldest account so I'm antsy about prodding too much but I'd sure like those lates removed. Thanks for any advice!

I would try calling them and explaining what happened. I wouldn't speak with the average rep that answers the phone, but an account specialist or supervisor.

I would continue to GW Walmart about every 30-60 days.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again. I would continue to write them GW letters every time they reply back saying no, if they do. It's possible that on some day, some where, in a land far, far away your letter might land on the lap of a sympathetic CSR, like mine did with Direct Loans Servicing.

Re: Help with gameplan

Thanks for weighing in, guys. I didn't have any luck calling Zales. Pretty much just got the cold shoulder and "info is accurate" speech. Sheesh, I've had them for eleven years and only flubbed up for the very brief period I was unemployed and brought it back to current quickly. Should I still GW them by mail again? I'm verklempt, honestly.

I'll keep showering dear Walmart with GWs. I have no problem bugging them. They've kept me at a CL of $75 for the entire five years I've had them. I want to close that card sooooo bad! I'm guessing a closed account with them would probably curtail my GW efforts though, right?

Quick question, do lates age off of closed accounts?

Everything ages good & bad!   Trying a GW on a closed account may get the complete TL deleted....which might hurt because of the age of the account.

Good to know! I have some ancient lates from '02 sitting on a closed account that I was hoping would age off.

Any ideas about Zales? It's so frustrating to see those ugly reds marks in the midst of all that lovely green...

Re: Help with gameplan

As time passes, the lates will begin to hurt less and less. Lates are removed at their 7 year mark.

To give you an idea of how even a bad account can help, I got a CO from 2003 removed and lost 30+ points.

Oh wow, sidewinder, that's rough. Was it losing the age that dinged you? That's why I don't dare GW the account with the old lates. It's my second oldest account and is ten years old.

Luckily my Zales account is still open and current, so it wouldn't be deleted unless by mistake, I imagine.
