Help?

I recently (2 months ago) moved back to the USA from Canada. I had been living in Canada since 2007.

checking my credit report via Credit Karma I saw several accounts opened in 2008-2014 (not possible because I was NOT living in the USA) and using an address in Las Vegas.

I called Experian and filed disputes. while checking today, I noticed this while looking at the Transunion

Account information disputed by consumer, meets FCRA requirements

and this while looking at Experian

Consumer disputes - reinvestigation in progress

how do I get these off my credit report? I noticed that by filing with Equifax/Transunion my score has gone down over 40+ points.

I'm also seeing a new account in collections showing missed payments- a card I never had. again it says

Consumer disputes - reinvestigation in progress

I just want it gone. any ideas on what I can do here?

If it isnt your account this sticky thread in the 'General Credit Topics' section may be of help:

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/General-Credit-Topics/Victim-of-Identity-Theft-What-To-Do-to-Protect-Yourself/td-p/2059499

Basically, it involves filing an Identity Theft report with the Police and then with the CRAs.

Re: Help?

Thanks

my question is- from 2006-until two  months ago, I was living in Canada- I only became aware of these items on my file(s) by checking once we relocated back to the USA

it looks like the majority of the cards opened/closed (very quickly) were done 2007-2009.

am I able to file a police report of identity theft now in 2015 for stuff that happened that long ago??

I have called Transunion to dispute the information

I have called Exquifax to dispute the information

the only one left to call is Experian, though I haven't got access to their report, and I don't have a US address from 2+ years ago :/

since filing the dispute on Friday, my scores have dropped 40+ points on stupid credit karma

Re: Help?

I would think you could file it now, since this is the first time you were made aware of it.

I think its not logical or practical if they expect you to monitor your CRs after you moved out of the country.

If you werent contacted about those accounts, how would you be expected to know?

I think its worth pursuing.

Re: Help?

thanks.

I will see if I can get to a police office tomorrow to make said reports.

i have to call Experian next (they're closed now)

Does anyone know how long it takes for things to be 'verified' what they require? and what I can provide that it isnt me?

Re: Help?

FCRA 605B requires the CRAs to exclude items asserted to potentially be the result of ID Theft within 4 days. There really is no "verification", you simply send the required items listed in FCRA 605B, and they exclude the items.
