Helping a friend with some collection issues

Two weeks ago my friend received a letter from CCS or Credit Collection Services in the amount of $520.66 in regards to insurance he had through his old job. Which he quit October of last year. I've told him to contact the insurance company but I'm not sure what else he can do. Since he quit that job, how can hold him accountable to pay insurance he didn't have access to ? Any idea's what exactly is going on and what he should do ?

Current Score: TU:786(Aug9), EX:776, EQ:782 (Aug8)

He should write that insurance company indicating he quit on such a date and the insurance was to stop by such date. Its possible he still owed for some of it and he should work directly with the ins company to resolve it not the CA.

If your friend finds out he still owes the debt, CCS will PFD.

Re: Helping a friend with some collection issues

Should he DV the collection agency to stop any collection activity, until he finds out what is going on ? I've never used insurance through a job before so I don't know how it works ? Are you saying even though he quit, they can still require him to pay for their insurance ? Please break this down for me if you can.

Re: Helping a friend with some collection issues

The reason why insurance is after him is because his information was on the policy. Why can't he just call previous place of employment and explain what is happening.
I would send DV letter to CCS and see results also.

Re: Helping a friend with some collection issues

Just a quick summary of the situation: According to Metlife he was supposed to informed that the insurance was never cancelled, even after he quit and they kept charging him for it and it was "their" bad they didn't have a correct address to let him know of the situation....but GOOD NEWS! he can still pay them and they wont take it out of collections!!..sarcasm much..
