How are some of you getting things corrected/deleted "the next day"?

Hi Everyone,

I've noticed many posts where the poster states he/she disputed with the CRA and the item in question was deleted and/or corrected "the next day" or "two days later."

My question is how are these items being disputed?  Are you disputing by phone?  By email?  Fax?  I'm only familiar with the old tried and true dispute by mail via CMRRR route.

And what if you need to provide some sort of proof, as in the DOFD date?  How are you getting the CRA to delete without being able to see your proof?

I'd love some pointers from those who are getting such a quick turn around from their disputes.

Thanks,

BigTrees

I just faxed a PFD letter to TransUnion and Experian. The item was removed in 72 hours.

I sent them an explanation letter and the Promise to delete letter from the collector.

In my experience, the CA does this as part of the PFD. When my payment posts, the CA then goes into their system and manually removes the TL from the CRAs. It is no longer viewable around 72 hours later.

Inspired, when you say PFD letter, is it a PFD letter that you have from the collection agency ?

Yes and no... in my case, once I received the signed PFD letter, I called and spoke with the person who signed/approved it to ask how they handle deletions. Either they can manually go into the system to delete individual accounts or they can flag it to delete on their next mass reporting date. I have had both happen. In the event that they manually process it, it will fall of in 72 hours. In the latter case, as others have mentioned, I fax the PFD letter to the CRA's and they handle it within days. I just spoke with TransUnion today and they say that they have to process faxes within 5 days of receipt.

Gliguy23 and others......thanks for your prompt replies.  Can anyone give me a recent FAX number for Experian?  I have several numbers I've found on the board but I'd like to use a number that has been successful recently.

Re: How are some of you getting things corrected/deleted "the next day"?

Hi.....I had been disputing an old item in my credit file for about 1 year (to EQ, EX and TU) when I finally decided to contact the creditor direct. I was absolutely getting nowhere with the credit bureaus. I first sent a letter to their customer service referencing the account number and my stated reasons why I thought the trade line should be deleted in my credit reports.

Two weeks after sending the letter, I got a phone call from one of the supervisors in the customer service department. I basically told him that this was a $68 dollar utility bill that had been paid in full for 5 years and it seemed a little ridiculous that they would keep reporting me as 120+ past due. I appealed to his sense of fairness and before I got off the phone with him, he said he'd take it up with his department supervisor. Low and behold, I checked my credit report the following day and within 24 hours the trade line was deleted from all three credit reports. I received a letter in the mail a week later telling me that they were submitting a Universal Data Form to all three credit bureaus to delete the trade line.

Bottom line is that pesistence is the key. I've managed to do this with two trade lines in my credit file and had them both deleted in about 24 hours after I got off the phone with the creditor.

Hope this helps.
