Once you have paid a government student loan, it becomes subject to the normal credit report exclusion provisions for derogs reported under the acount, such as exclusion of monthly delinquencies no later than 7 years from their dates of occurence, and exclusion of any reported charge-off or collection no later than 7 years plus 180 days from the DOFD.

You can, if you seek removal prior to the FCRA exclusion dates, request the credtior report deletion of the derogs or of the account to the CRAs.

However, the mandatory reporting requirments imposed under the Higher Education Act for government student loans will normally be basis for denail of most creditors of their voluntary reporting of deletions.  You will likely need to wait for expiration of the normal credit report exclusion provisions under FCRA 605(a).

Send the creditor a request for their voluntary good-will deletion, but expect denial if the derogs were reported on a government student loan.
