I have a collection that just hit my credit report. Thing is I already got a dunning from another collection agency (Hoyt, Hoyt and Landau) that I responded to last week. Now I see the same exact debt being reported from another collection agency (NCO Financial) on my EX report. NCO says they had the acct as of July 12 but I never recieved a dunning. Only dunning I recieved (08/03/2012), I responded to and it was from Hoyt in Miami, FL not NCO in PA.

You can have more than one CA on your CR. You can have one collections and an assigned collection. Also if the acct. was sold the first CA is not compelled to delete, just to post it as $0 balance.
With that being said, not receiving a dunning notice is a problem. You should contact them in that regards. There's some legal jargon that goes with it, I usually let RobertEG post on that.
The issue is they are claiming they have the acct now and so is the other collector. Why would they report a month after I recieved the dunning from the other collector stating they just opened the acct in July and are still collection on it as of September?
DV both of them. See which one actually has it.
Already had the Hoyt DV'd by my pre-paid legal a week ago, filed ftc complaint with NCO tonight. Only NCO showing on CR, also going to DV and BB NCO tomm.
I've just never heard of 2 CA collecting an acct at the same time.
Do both of them show balances? If they do and one is not assigned, then you are correct. There is one too many on there.
Nice having Pre-paid legal isn't it? I've used the crap out of them!
I love my pre-paid legal
Only one is reported to ex, but the letter from Hoyt had a balance and nco on my report has a balance.

Yeah.. sounds like a double dip to me too. Send the DV to NCO and see what they send back.
NCO is sketchy...
I've said it before I'll say it again.
NCO isn't always "legit" Did they soft pull you right before they put something on your report?
Google them...and a DV letter usually goes a long way...
Guess I got my answer, I was about to mail my DV today but wanted to check on the BBB dispute and EX dispute. The trade line has disappeared. So odd.
