Working on rebuilding my credit after a Chapt 7 discharge earlier this year. I was interested in getting a Discover card if possible and so try their Pre-Qualify link once and a while. It always shows a variable APR like 11.99%-23.99% in the terms, which from reading this site probably means no promise of approval.
Today I received an updated Discover Credit Scorecard email so logged in to check it out (657 score showing). I then clicked on the link on that page to Compare Cards and the Terms within that link show a straight 23.99%, and not a large variable APR I see on the pre-approval site. This seems like a good sign, but when I click to move forward none of my info is prepopulated in the credit app so unsure if the flat 23.99% showing is based on the info tied to me/my ScoreCard or not. Was hoping to not risk a credit pull if this doesn’t seem like decent chance of approval.
Thanks for all the help!
Your Scores are right there with mine. I did a pre-qual the other day and it gave me a-ranged APR....BUT I figured why not take the shot.
None of my information was pre-populated on the application screen either. I got to the very end and it told me that I needed to call them as the last step. I didn't call them because I was juggling too many things at the time. I forgot about having to call them back.
Today, I get a call at work. It was an 866 number. I hate 8XX-numbers and never pick them up but I answered it today and it was Discover. They told me that I could not be approved at the terms and conditions that were given at the time of application but they would approve me with different terms. 23.99% (Prime+ 19%) No Annual Fee. No 0% introductory period. 6 month transfer balance apr of 10.9% and a CL of $2800.
I took it. Of course, the card will not come out of my dresser drawer. It felt good to be approved.
Everyone's situation is Different so....
Good Luck,
Solo
My score was around there when I applied. I didn't get an email or anything. I tried the prequal site and it gave me the wide range. I had just been approved for Amex and thought, "Why not?" Apped. Instant approval. Got my first CLI tonight.
Most seem very concerned about burning inquiries. I don't like it either, but it's not the end of the world. My EQ had 8 when I applied. If you like the card and will use it, I'd say go for it.

Curious if anyone else has insight on the single apr showing when click thru from the discover scorecard site?
For me right now the only link on the scorecard site is for the secured card and that does show a 23.99% apr. I assumed this was the standard secured card rate, but I am not sure. I am waiting another month or two to see if my scores come up and I can possibly see small range or single range on an unsecured card. good luck.
I know you're asking specifically about Discover but having been personally at a crappy credit score of low 500s I recommend Cap1 as a rebuilder card. They were so good to me when I was rebuilding, didn't give me much but once I got re-established I eventually added Discover to my credit portfolio at a low 14% interest rate. I consider Discover a good card so my personal opinion is if you want it, get it when you can get that great rate. Just my thoughts. Good luck!
OP I was wondering if you ever tried the link and if so what happened? My hubby is getting the same thing and trying to decide to take the chance or not.
Thanks
