I have a USAA checking account that went bad in Dec 2012/January 2013. The amount owed is approx $2500. As of now, the account is not reporting on my credit report.
I'm not interested in rebuilding a relationship with them, BUT I'm cleaning up my credit and really don't want any new collections/chargeoffs to appear on my credit report.
What's the best strategy here? I'm worried that if I call them to work out some sort of arrangement that this will "wake up" the account and it will start reporting to the bureaus.
Any advice is much appreciated!

I would be walking in to see the bank manager if you can if not you are going to want to contact management anyway and offer settlement in exchange for not reporting, you are most likely going to have to settle in full this is a new delinquency.
for a delinquent USAA checking account you are being reported on ChexSystems/Early Warning Systems/TeleCheck not on TU/EX/EQ? check your ChexSystems/EWS/Telecheck reports. .
It will be surprising if any of the three major CRA's would report as derogatory on their bureaus.
It may be very difficult to open a new checking account anywhere if you are reported to Chex/EWS or Telecheck.
Hopefully you have other checking accounts where you bank with in your name.
I m of the opinion that i would carry checking accounts with three different banks in different states/cities. Why? if i default on one the other doesn't really care until you go apply to open a new checking/savings account. The Chexsystems record is deleted after 5 years, EWS/Telecheck after 7.
EWS is mainly Chase Bank, Bank of america and i believe CITI/WellsFargo
Google EWS/Chexsystems/Telecheck
