Re: How to proceed with collection account(s)

I'm hoping the fako sites can at least help point out activity. I'd rather avoid paying for extra credit reports and score watch type subscriptions. Worst case scenario, Commonwealth won't work with me and I'll take the PIF and goodwill the crap out of them, best case, they delete the accounts because they screwed up. Of course, PFD is somewhere in the middle and likely what will end up happening. I just want it off of my reports. I'm hoping the fako sites will at least show some type of change. I'm hopeful that an e-mail will hold up if further action is required. I knew I did not want to call, and I knew I did not want to disclose my phone number. I don't believe they have ever called the house before and that would be the only number I would have on any file.

I think I'll try to stick with these two CCs for a while. I don't want to push my luck, especially with the baddies reporting so recently. I'm hoping having a student loan doesn't hurt me too much. It was in forbearance for a while back in 2009-ish while we were transitioning from my husband working for an employer to self-employed and adding baby #3 to the family, but has since been paid on time monthly. I figured forbearance was better than lates, but I have no idea how that looks to a potential creditor.

I did find a local credit union tonight. I don't know if I'm eligible to join. You have to either live or work in a specific county. My husband works in one of those counties at this point in time, but not all of the time, and our zip code is actually that county, because our local post office was shut down. I'm going to call on Monday to see if they'd bend the rules a bit to let us join. Completely free checking, free business checking, (our bank doesn't offer either one unless you're willing to keep $$$$$ in the account at all times) and it's about the same distance as the bank we're currently using.

Good luck with the credit union! They really are the best route to go! The free monitoring sites like Credit Karma, Credit Sesame, etc are awesome for monitoring. They do let you know of changes, new accounts and things like that. Just don't rely on their scores. 2 CC'S are plenty to start with. Just garden those two for awhile and then app for another later down the road once your report looks cleaner. This will also hopefully bring larger CL'S as well.

Re: How to proceed with collection account(s)

I had all sorts of alerts when I woke up this morning. MyFICO alert said my score went up 24 pts this morning just because BoA started reporting. I also got the ok from the credit union, and Commonwealth sent an e-mail back saying that the two $476 accounts were showing closed and would be removed from my report, the $221 is all that's left. They left a number to call, but I sent an e-mail back asking for a PFD. Hopefully, I'll know something by tomorrow. According to the forums, they seem like a pretty easy company to work with, so I'm optimistic! Smiley Very Happy Feeling good today!

Congrats! I email Commonwealth today and received a response validating the debt. The balance is $174 and the offered to settle for $100 and delete from credit reports. I will call them on Friday to make the payment since they wouldn't accept my medical mastercard.

Re: How to proceed with collection account(s)

I hope having 3 negatives removed will be a big boost in my score, but I'd take a no score change and a clear report if I can get it. I offered $100 for the PFD, but I'm willing to pay the full amount if that's what it takes.
