How to remove OC from report after PFD.

I have been trying to clean up my credit report for the last year or so and was recently able to get a PFD for Midland Credit.  The Midland Credit account was from a charge-off and the original creditor is Synchrony Bank, which was from a department store credit card.  I notice that Midland has now been removed completely from my report, but it still has the Synchrony Bank account listed with $0 as being closed.  I assume this is affecting my report and I'm trying to find out the best way to go about having it removed.  I have read about goodwill letters but am unsure if this is the proper route to go.

Any advice on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the Midland PFD success!

OCs are much harder to remove. Your only options are either (1) send goodwill letters and hope for the best; (2) scour the item on your paper reports for errors to dispute in hopes of removal rather than correction.

The good news is the account is closed, with a zero balance - so regular reporting of account updates to the bureaus will cease, allowing the degarogatory info to age and hurt your score less over time.

You may be able to get them to at least update the account to reflect "paid charge off" - which looks better to lenders under a manual review.

Unless you find errors in their reporting that allows you to point out FCRA violations, Goodwill letters are probably your best shot. Just keep sending them and keep your fingers crossed that it falls in the right hands one day - you only need one person to take pity on you. Good luck!

Re: How to remove OC from report after PFD.

Thanks for the replies!

vonnie5603, while researching on this and other forums I found several people that had success removing Midland.  I called them and asked for them to send me a written letter stating that they would remove the account and cease reporting to all agencies after I paid 60% of the total amount.  Around a week and a half later when the letter arrived I called them and paid over the phone.  Please PM me if you need any other info!

Re: How to remove OC from report after PFD.

Midland's policy is they will delete the collection after 1) payment or settlement is made and 2) its been 2 years from the DOFD.

Re: How to remove OC from report after PFD.

I have a collections from Midland for $664, from 2015. I disputed it and the OC in 2015 OC deleted Midland wouldn't budge. Do you recommend I offer a pay for delete?

Midland has a policy where if you pay or settle with them they will delete if it’s 2 years from the dofd. So I think in your situation, it would be deleted after payment.
