Hello,
I forgot to return a cable box to Verizon after I moved and closed my account. Recently I found out that my account was sent to a collection agency and the debt was reported to the credit buroughs.
My report says the debt is in collection and I have not made the payment yet. I also says "Estimated month and year that this item will be removed: 02/2022".
If I pay my debt, is there a way that this item could be removed from my credit report? If not, what incentive would I have to pay the debt if it will be removed in 2022 whether I pay it or not?
Thank you for your help.
Simply paying a debt will not remove it from your report. You could pay it and politely ask them to remove it, you can negotiate a pay for delete on the debt, or you can do nothing and let it sit there. The incentive to paying off the debt is to avoid being sued. Other incentives may include having a clean report when trying to purchase a car or home also.
1. Call the OC and ask them to recall the collector in exchange for full payment.
2. Make a PFD offer to the reporting CA if #1 fails
