Hi all,
I have one more payment left on a collections account and I'm wondering what's the best way to get this removed. This is with Midland Funding.
Payment of a debt is not basis for deletion of a reported collection.
The CRAs incorportate instructions in their credit reporting manual that furnishers are not to delete based on payment of a debt.
As such, many furnishers will not do so in order to comply with their credit reporting agreements.
The procedure is to send the debt collector a request for their good-will deletion, and hope they will voluntarily delete.
Again, many will have general policies not to grant such deletions based on the CRA policy instructing them not to do so, and it may be necessary to send your requests to uppper management in order to obtain an exception from their normal policy.
By no means should you NOT try to GW Midland to death (I'd send them a letter every month requesting a gw removal!), but I'm going to be perfectly honest... if it is with Midland, it will most likely stay on your CR until the bitter end. Some people have had luck with Midland, but I'd say very few. I have a paid collection with Midland due to fall off in September. It was for a charged off Aspire Visa. I have been trying FOREVER to get them to remove it (the OC even already removed), but they won't budge. I sincerely hope you have better luck than I did with Midland, but IMO just don't expect stellar results.
