I know this may be a silly question, but I thought one of my older credit accounts (2 1/2 years ago w/Cap One, has been paid off and closed since) was in collections, however I don't remember ever being contacted by any collections agency, and the account on my CRs don't say anything about collections, just that the account went 150 days deliquent. Would my CR explicitly mention it? Thanks in advance!

Not necessarily. If they are reporting a 0 balance then they have sold the debt to a JDB. If they are still reporitng a balance I would be contacting them to make settlement arrangements before they send it off to a CA. They may tell you they sent it to a CA if they did and they refuse to work a settlement with you then ask who the CA is and contact them to make settlement arrangements before they report it.

Hi gdale6,
Well the balance is $0 because I paid it off in full. All 3 CRs report a $0 balance and that the account was paid/closed. So is there any other way I could tell if it went to collections or not? Thanks again!
No there isnt any way short of calling the creditor to ask but its a moot point at this time since you paid it all off. If a paid collection shows up then you would know it was sent to collections but its highly unlikely they would report a paid collection as it costs them money to do so.
