I have a few questions, can you help?

Hey everyone, Im new here and im young and finally working on my credit. I have a few questions I think some of you might be able to help clear up for me.

I have 3 collection agency accounts with bal. still...last activity on all three are (yrs) 06,07,07. My first question is about this last activity business, cause I know if it's over (7yrs) old in my state Minnesota it's basicly bye bye. But sense these are not, say I payed these off...That would not change the last activity right? ... Cause I wouldn't want that. Also, has anyone had any sucess with these GW letters or other actions to get things deleted early? Cause that would be the best outcome really.

Also, One of the 3 debts above was a credit card and I was sued via civil court...default judgement. Now I have a public record in my report, is there anyway to get rid of that? Also, this law firm that sued me...they're making inquires, i've noticed they have done so twice already this year...Can I stop them from doing this??? or can they just do whatever they want?? Cause It sure seems like it...reasonable attorneys fees...Yea Right! :-(

Re: I have a few questions, can you help?

Welcome to the forums,

I can help with the collections, Don't know enough about judgments to help....Other will chime in soon to help with that.

Get your current free CR's from annualcreditreport.com (your can use link below) By law, you get 1 from each CRA's every 12mos.

On the collections you will have to know who owns the account......The OC or CA. Also the SOL and DOFD for each CA.

Collections are either SOLD or ASSIGNED to CA.

Contact the OC and see if they own the account and will still accept payment for a PFD.If they do, have them to pull back the assigned  collection, and included that in your PFD.

IF sold to CA, send CA a DV letter. If they validate, then send them a PFD.

Detailed info about this, can be found at the link at the top of the page...What Steps Do I Take?Do I DV? PFD?

Check out the links below to get you started to understand how this works. I know at first you may get confused, but keep reading it will sink in and make sense. GTG dinner done, will check back later.Smiley Wink

Re: I have a few questions, can you help?

Thanks for responding! Smiley Very Happy This is what I was looking for....These types of actions/letters.

After reading about these DV & PFD letters I have another question...

These CA's sent the 30 debt dispute letter long ago...Isn't it to late then for a DV now? Even though I do question the date of last activity on one of them...My recent Equifax says it was 2006....I really thought it was older than that...(No Paperwork Anymore) Smiley Mad

Last, could you or someone else please post a link to a sample DV & PFD letter that they themselfs have or would send. There are so many different ones, I don't know which one to use.

Re: I have a few questions, can you help?

Before doing anything, read and understand where you are with each of these collection.

Some of these DV letters ask too much, and will only p*ss the CA off.

You don't want to do that, because you are probably going to ask for a delete. Also don't want a return letter intend to sue.

Need to know

What is the SOL and DOFD for each account?.

What state where you live in and the state where the debt occurred in?

First get current CR's, then match up the OC to the CA......CA don't always have correct info.

You can get the DOFD from the OC listed on CR's

On EX and TU will have the Date to be removed.

Then come back here and post the CA with the matching OC (if listed on your CR's) with questions you have.

Of course minus the personal info, your name, address etc.

Posting hint. For better response..Post one or two of these at a time(the OC and CA info)

Its early, I already had to retype this once because it timed out.LOL  See you l8r Smiley Wink
