I really need some help

Currently my fico is 598. I've been working hard the past year on fixing my credit. Problem is I am new to credit and have 3-4 things in collections. About 1 yr ago I got my first secured card, which I pay on time monthly. Then I got an auto loan which I am also paying on time monthly. Not to mention student loans that I'm paying on time, monthly. I have tried getting credit cards in the past to no avail. This has racked up about 10 credit inquiries in the past yr (did not know inquiries affected score until recently). It bothers me that i cannot even get a simple card like Macy's. where should I start with fixing my credit...and what would be the quickest way? Thanks for any help

Re: I really need some help

Inquiries only inpact your score for the first year. Although they last on your report for two years, only the first year bears the weight of them.

As far as repair, I would contact the creditors whom you have debt with.  If you have a balance with them, or its charged off.  Call them and ask for what's called a "pay for delete" essentially you're agreeing to pay the balance, if they delete the trade line entirely from your credit reporting.

Make sure you get it in writing, on their letter head.  Do not make any payments with them unless they agree in writing.

Start off with that.  Even if you can't afford the full amount due, at least attempt a settled amount for a pay for delete.

Good Luck.
