I have some old, closed, positive accounts, from 2002. They are starting to fall off my credit reports. Being 10+ years old they are helping, and I would rather not have them fall off. Is there any way to get them reinserted?
They are aging off your report. It's now after 10 years. I know it's heartbreaking when those old good ones fall off...but they eventually do fall off.
The CRA policy of deleting accounts that are more than 10 years from closure is entirely and administrative procedure on their part.
It is unregulated under the FCRA. Thus, there is no formal procedure to contest such deletions.
You could send a letter to the CRA contesting their policy, but I think I know where that will go..
You might also bring legal action against the CRA, challenging their procedure on the basis of harm to the consumer. Lots of time and effort in that path!
The only other option is to perhaps have the OC report some information on the account, and see how the CRA will handle their reporting.
I might put the CRA in a precarious position of declining to accept reporting of legitimate information.
However, I have no idea what kind of reporting you could convince an OC to make on a dead account. They have probably at least archived the account information, and perhaps have also purged their records. I see little incentive for them to take time to concoct some reporting in order to retain an account in your credit file.
Strange how they determine some of those. I have a couple of accounts that are beyond ten years that are still reporting. I just leave them be.
