So I called Kay and PIF on the collection I had with them and they said they would report it paid.
I check my EX credit report today and see that in April this year (the same week that I PIF), they list the status for April 2011 as KD (Key Derogatory). I mean what the !!!
May 2009 it shows 60 days late, and every single month after that it shows ND (not sure what that means) but on Apr this year it says KD
I mean come on Kay, why would they put a KD after I paid them in full?
I should try to GW this one and/or phone some high ups at Kays. That's just ridiculous.
I'd pull your report from the CRA. It won't be listed as a "KD" since only a select number of CMSs report that way, but you may actually see it report as a 120+ day late.
DW had a Verizon CO listed and we had to PIF as a condition to our mortgage. It wasn't much and had avoided PFDing it since it was only on one CRA and Verizon has been know to report to more than one after receiving a PFD or dispute. So we paid it and they added a 120 day late in that month and updated it as a paid CO. I don't know what it did to DW's EX FICO since the lender decided not to do a second pull, but I can't imagine an update like that helped.
Once a TL is CO'd, they are supposed to report as a 120+ late, CO, 150+ day or whatever every single month from that moment all the way up to the point it is paid or sold. Fortunately, for the time being anyway, they never reported any data (ND = no data). They you pay it and they reported a late. At the very least they should have reported a late last month and none this month since it was paid. Even if you got them to change the late placement by a month, your score wouldn't change any (had you known your EX FICO).
If I had that, and depending on the TL's age, I would fire off some GWs by asking for deletion or GW asking them to remove all lates and CO comments. They can easily change all of those NDs to actual lates, but per FICO, I don't see any score change because the worst delinquency is the CO itself.
You're righty llecs, I pulled my report from a CRA nad it's not listed as KD but here comes the best part.
Unless i'm reading this wrong. The account was charged off in May 2009. But the status says : Charged off as of Apr 2011.
Does this mean they put the charge off on Apr 2011 or that it was charged off up to and until Apr 2011?
If they made the CO Apr 2011, that would prob kill my score since it would be recent.
FYI in April I PIF the collection.
Hmm, to me that reads as if it charged off in Apr 2011.
I have a handful of student loan COs and on my credit reports, when it sayd "Charged off as of..." the date inserted is the date that the default actually occurred. Sounds like they have seriously screwed up the reporting of this account to your detriment. I would call them and see if you can first get them to correct with a friendly phone call.
My take is that it is still reporting correctly. If it was CO'd in 2009, they could have marked it with a new CO or late every month until now. IMO, they aren't saying it was CO'd last month, but the status updated it as a CO as of last month. Of course there's no doubt the payment triggered that. If you made a partial payment, as an example, it would have updated the same. If you made another payment this month, it would update to "charged off as of May 2011". Pay again next month, then it would update to June.
I thought so too. It's probably reporting as if it was charged off in April 2011 instead of Somewhere in 2009.
I hate calling them, even the managers have no clue when you tealk to them. Bjut they will give you the hilier than thou. know it all attitude.

You mean that i have just screwed myself by paying it?

Not really...what's the alternative? Not pay it? In fact, depending on its reporting that it could have been included into utilization so paying it could have resulted in a net gain on that alone. And if they repeatedly denied a PFD request, your only next best step is to pay it and start GWing them. Like with DW's Verizon CO reporting before our mortgage approval. If I didn't pay it, we'd have to keep on renting; there was no alternative.
I'm in negotiation with Kay but not looking good. Even the senior managers seem not to care. Now that I'ave paid them in full,e the standard, we don't goodwill, it was my responsibility to pay, it's being reported correctly.
As if they dont even care about someone's personal chanllenges that might have led to a non payment. Worst of all they dont even give you the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't cost them anything to remove a closed tradeline but they won't do it becasue they don't want to not that they cannot, they just won't
Just got off the phone with what is called a 'customer service manager'. It makes one wonder about the caliber of the people Sterling Jewelers employ. She said and I quote:
1. You said the store manager told you that since you were already a customer that it was going to be a soft pull but you got hit with a hard. Sorry he gave you the wrong info. - So I'm like Kay called me not to address my situation but to look for a payment? She said yes.
2.
Me: Kay is reporting me my charge off to be Apr 2011 when it was May 2009. I called Experian and EQ and TU, they all told me that Kay is reporting this not us. What can you do.
KJ: Euuhh We are reporting May 2009 so I dont know. Ok so who can fix it? Dispute it.
Me: Can you contact or send an email to the CRA's to fix that?
KJ: No we dont contact thme by fax it's an automated system we send to them
Me: Who can you contact to make this happen?
KJ: I have no clue
3.
Me: Prior to paying the CO, the data on my CR's said ND from May 2009 to Mar 2011. The minute I pay, I get slammed with 23 times 90 days late. If an account if charged off, I have never seen any company reporting it late after the CO date in my case May 2009. It was sent to a CA.
KJ: Well you were late even after the CO
Me: So you were more concenred about ypur money than a customer satisfaction issue?
KJ: Silence ....................................
Me: Why would Kay jewelers add more fuel to the fire? Havent you guys penalized me enough?
KJ: We are reporting accurately
Me: So you will not send a letter to correct the info with the CRA nor delete the tradeline since I paid you in full and then you slammed me with a 23 times late after I PIF?
KJ: No we don't do goodwill, we have to report correctly according to the law and we cannot remove an account it's illegal
Me: FCRA gives a company the legal discretion to delete a tradeline. In this case, it would be a goodwill.
KJ: What is FCRA? (I'm not even joking)
I was getting nowehre with this woman who was highly placed. Sterling Jewelers when it comes to the caliber of some of the people you employ, I rest my case.
