Hello - I apologize in advance if I am ignorant to how the forum works. I have been doing a lot of reading and thought it may be good time to ask my question. I am working on rebuilding my credit and have successfully paid off several old collection accounts. I just discovered the PFD strategy and hope to be able to use it going forward. However, I have reached out to several creditors to request account information so that I may propose a payment plan and have never received a response. I have mailed letters via certified mail on two separate occasions and haven't received any communication in return. I'm not sure how I can resolve the debt without communication with the creditor. Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
What exactly did you say in the letter? Can you post it here?
Thanks for your response. Here's the letter that I sent to one of the creditors.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing with regard to account number ****. This is my third attempt to reach someone at your company regarding this account. I received a copy of my credit report dated 6/28/12. I acknowledge that I owe you the balance of **** on my account. I am not disputing this amount. However, I would like to request validation of my debt as well as the contact information for making payment arrangements on this debt. I am providing the last 4 digits of my SSN to help locate the account XXX-XX-XXXX.
Please reply to this letter to confirm that you have received this letter and can provide validation of my debt.
I have no desire to intentionally default on this debt. I appreciate your understanding of my current financial situation and hope to begin negotiations on a successful payment arrangement.
Best Regards,
You really can't ask for validation and at the same time tell them you know its your debt. That is the purpose of a DV.
They may have just taken it as a DV and decided not to respond. Have you ever received a dunning notice from them?
Is the debt inside of suing SOL?
Gotcha--thanks for that insight. Clearly, I needed to be on the forums before sending my letters. I haven't received a dunning letter and the debt is within the SOL. My goal is to begin paying on the debt. I just need a place to start with the creditor.
Have they updated the CR since you sent the letter?
Well, since your goal is to pay them, you can call them. You acknowledge the debt as yours and since they aren't responding to your letters, you really have no other choice.
Are these CAs or OCs?
There haven't been any changes to my credit report after sending the letters. One is an OC and another is a CA. There's no number listed on the credit report and when I call using my SSN to pull up the account information they cannot find my account.
You don't send a DV to the OC. Those are for CAs only.
Is there an account number on your CR?
Are you calling the correct OC/CA?
When I've called the OC, I've provided the account information from the CR. Each time I'm redirected to the "recovery" department and asked to fax communication to their department. I haven't had any response.
Odd. Ask for the recovery department and tell them you are trying to make payments. Did you fax that letter to them. They may have took it for a DV an ignored it.
