@radfam wrote:Thanks! I have been looking on the boards at the recommendations on three CCs. I did receive a PreQual in the mail two weeks ago for a Credit One CC. Planning to look at some options. I hadn't considered even checking for PreQual before, to be honest. Before I started really deciding to get serious about cleaning up my report, the last CK pull I remember was 499. I know, I know....Fako. I just assumed with that, I shouldn't even apply bc I would likely be denied.
Avoid the predatory issuers like Credit One. They are not necessary at all.
I hadn't much considered Credit One. I didn't get super excited when it came in the mail, mostly because (to me) they aren't a major like Discover. I had planned to do some research on this forum on them before making a decision to move forward and try it out.
Yes call and see if they will remove the restriction. My wife had one that went overlimit and it took me almost two years to get it back down. They never did remove it though, they said it had been too long.
That is the really odd part. I paid the balance to zero after missing 5 or 6 payments but it had already gone into account restricted status. I called at talked to a rep and she said since I had paid it to zero that day, there would be a three month restricted period from that point and then it would open back up. I never followed up after the three months because it wasn't something I used much. I've never been one to rely on credit cards and this was my first card ever. Sadly enough, my five month balance was roughly $35. It was just out of sight, out of mind and very poor use of my credit for certain. It wasn't that I didnt have the funds to pay it. I just basically forgot about it for a long time. Anyway, I will be making that call today to ask about getting the account restriction lifted.
Log in, set up autopay, log out.
There is no excuse for any of us to have a single account that isn't on autopay for at least the minimum balance.
I completely agree. That part is exactly why I am kicking myself. We have the income to sustain ourselves while storing savings. Not putting things on autopay and then paying late has been a big part of our marriage. We have been irresponsible with paying on time. My credit score can only be attributed to my own bad habits of late payments. Autopay will have to be a "given" to help us move forward.
I'm looking at my credit reports right now. I do have one collection ($200 medical debt) that I'm working on. I found a second medical collection debt paid off that is still showing up on my EQ but not TU. Same CA for both the paid account and the current collection. What is the best course to address both?
My initial thought is PFD letter for the existing debt and goodwill letter for the Paid account. It was paid back before I ever even considered working on my credit. I paid it because it was my debt. I never once thought to PFD or even about it being on my CR at all.
"Saturation method" for goodwill has worked for me 7 out of 9 times.
Ok, so on CCT for that open collection, I don't understand why I'm seeing what I'm seeing. EX isn't reporting it at all, TU is reporting it Open, and EQ is reporting it Closed (late and unpaid). I can't insert a screenshot to show what I'm seeing. On my CR, pulled 3/22/17, I see it as open on EQ. CCT is showing EQ reporting closed.
I can call the CA but I'm also wondering if that restarts the clock. Debt validation window has passed, as the account was opened with the CA in 2013. I don't know what the debt is for other than it is medical. I assume it is valid but husband also paid off $700 in the same year on my medical debt (childbirth) that had gone to the same CA. We aren't sure how to validate what it is for.
Ok so on my revolving credit accounts to get my three accounts. I have gone on to the Cap1 prequal page and entered my info, with "rebuilding" as my status. I got two offers: Platinum and QS1. Not sure how to proceed on these, if at all.
