I had an old collection account I wanted to pay off, the original balance was less than $300, but I paid almost $400 to the CA. That was messup #1.
Messup #2 is that I contacted them, when they hadn't even contacted me for years, but I wanted to make good on it. The messup is that I didn't use the HIPPA process.
So, I paid it, and it felt good, but now it's showing up on my credit report as

Paid,Closed/Collection account.

What do I do now? Is the date it falls off my report going to be longer now? I have the original bill from 2005 still. I thought I was doing the right thing by paying my old debts, but I'm really second guessing if I did the right thing.
You can still use the HIPAA process. Start at the beginning. This is a paid medical and should be removed.
To add.......paying it doesn't make it stay on your report longer.
DOFD(when CRTP begins running) can not be changed once an account reaches charge off/collection status.
