Medical Bill Judgement

I have a medical bill that has a judgement on it. Can I do offer a PFD for a judgement or what is the best way to handle this type of debt.

Re: Medical Bill Judgement

It isn't the person to whom you owe that reports the judgement, so they really can't do anything for you in the way of a PFD.  They can't ask the court to undo their judgement without pretty much stating they were some how 'wrong' in seeking it.

Once you pay a judgement though it will show up as zero balance or paid judgement, etc.  I have heard of people who have tried to get them removed by disputing it with the bureaus (because they weren't properly served or some other reason) and using the wrong dispute (because 'not properly served is not a reason to dispute), and usually it's not removed.

On the rare occassion that it was removed, it almost always shows back up because it's still there in the public records of that court.

Ok. So I guess I just need to figure out if I need to pay the court or pay the CA that has the judgement.  I will start with the CA. Maybe I can make some payment arrangements to get it paid off.

Re: Medical Bill Judgement

What ever you do, make sure that you get a receipt.  I would even have my bank draw up a cashier's check noting your name, the judgement number/info, etc. with something noting the balance is considered PIF with that payment.  You may want to check with the courts and see the actual document and make sure that the payment is made out to the person it's ordered to be paid.

Re: Medical Bill Judgement

Some states allow for judgement removal after paying it, check your laws in your area.

Re: Medical Bill Judgement

Really does anyone know if this is the case in Indiana. How do find out what the law is here?

It's ultimately up to the judge before you, but there you go.
