Re: Medical Collections Question....

All *paid* medical collections should be deleted.     start with the Pre-HIPAA letter to the CRAs reporting.

Re: Medical Collections Question....

HappyDays or Fuse: I've been told to send a money order to the OC, but I've noticed in your threads that you recommend a personal check. Still confused as to what to do. Thanks

Re: Medical Collections Question....

Use a bank (cashiers) check payable to the OC and on the back of it, write for deposit only

Re: Medical Collections Question....

How can the OC make the CA purge their records if the CA owns the debt? Was just reading through the hippa letter, and was wondering!

Re: Medical Collections Question....

Are you saying your mother's doctor sold her debt to a CA. This is highly (very) unlikely, doctor's cannot write of bad debt for tax purposes...doctors eat it. This is why it makes NO sense to me when an OC refuses to accept payment from their patient (or former one). AFAIK, it doesn't matter who owns the debt, HIPAA trumps everything.

Re: Medical Collections Question....

I dont know if they sold it or not but i know that the CA is trying to collect on it ofcourse! HIPPA is the king of the world, when it comes to medical data! Atleast thats the way it seems, thanks fused this is great information to know!

When i begin my work with the Hippa process i will let you know how it goes, thanks!

But a few questions first to make sure i got it right!

-CA or OC must be reporting
-Then send Prehippa letter to  CRA, wait for results
-Then send hippa letter #2, with insert a

All collections dont have to be paid, to be able use hippa process, isnt that what insert a is for, to pay them if you havent already?

Thanks sorry if questions are redundant!

OCs cannot report, only the CA

Yes, allow up to 35 days (to include mailing time)
-Then send hippa letter #2, with insert a
Yes, if not paid or deleted

What I'm trying to convey to forum members is that in order for the process to work, you will have to PIF at some point otherwise the collection can still be reported by the CA because there is a balance. Remember, a CA reporting unpaid collection is not a PHI violation. Your questions are not redundant, it's best to ask so you don't make mistakes and have a bad outcome. GL!

Thanks sorry if questions are redundant!

Re: Medical Collections Question....

Ok  HappyDays or Fused your expertise is requested once again.  I have several medical collections on my cr and am wondering if i should contact the oc for the correct amount to pif or just start with the pre-Hipaa letter.  I think they may be combining a few of my accounts and reporting the original amount and the combined amount but not sure.  I am also wondering if a few of them were from an accident we had that my daughter was injured in.  If that is the case the insurance was supposed to pay for any and all treatment.  Any advice woud be greatly appreciated!  Many thanks in advance.
