I have three collection accounts reporting to all three of my credit bureaus. All of the accounts stem from a emergency visit. That was never billed to my secondary insurance. It is now past the time frame I have to update the insurances. I called all three CA, and two agreed on the phone for a PFD. So I went ahead and paid them. The last "Medical Data System" flat out refused to do that. I sent the company a PFD letter explaining the events in full detail. And expressed that I would be willing to pay the full amount in exchange for the removal of the collection. I was told that no matter what they wont remove, and the collection will fall off in 7 years. So I hung-up with out paying. Should I keep trying to get them to delete. With the expectation that sooner or later they will want to get paid rather then let the Statue of Limitations run out. Or should I pay the collection and try to keep Good-willing them? Has anyone had success with Medical Data System removing collection early? Is there something beside a GW letter i can use for medical collection.

I am going the process now for several collection accounts that I have. I sent out PFD request letters but have not heard back from anyone yet. If I get a letter back from any of them stating that they will not do a PFD then I plan on calling the CA's and speak with them in person about doing a PFD. If I continue to get a no then I plan on emailing a PFD request to executive leadership. If all else fails on three PFD effort then I will change Strategies and try and come to a settlement with them with the provision that once paid they report the account as paid with a $0 balance. If they are not willing to report it as paid with a $0 balance on a settlement then I will have no choice but to pay it in full so that it will indeed be reported as paid with a $0 balance. It is my understanding that if you can not get it removed that a status of paid with a $0 balance is prefered over paid as a settlement with $0 balance.
Good Luck

Yeah I first called and got the no over the phone. Then I sent a letter to them. I can pay the account, I just don't want to lose my leverage if I have any. Once I pay them. I sent them a email today. I'm not sure if that will go to the same people who have been already telling me no. I have been looking on-line for a different email address. But I can't seem to find anything like a CEO email. If anyone has a different email then whats on the site please PM me.

Some hospitals, especially non profit ones, have a program in place for uninsured/underinsured.
If the income falls within certain federal poverty levels, some or all of patient's responsibility may be written off. Same goes for patients would would have been eligible for Medicad program at the time services were rendered but did not apply previously.
Pretty sure there is a time limit during which application for charity care needs to be completed. Contact the hospital and see what they have to say.
