Does anybody know if you have to pay in full your medical debt for it to be removed comes July 2022 or does SETTLED count as PAID too? I tried googling but haven't found any answers
According to the CFPB, any PAID medical debt should be removed. It doesn't distinguish between paid in full or settled for less.
Thanks Omar, I guess I'm going to try to settle for less than full amount.
I paid off two medical collections in March, before i was aware of the July purging of paid collections. I did settle on one for 30% less. I did try to dispute them in May with no luck. Only Transunion deleted, with Exp ans EQ verifying as accurate. On June 1st I disputed the accounts again and this time I added comments in my dispute as paid medical collections, and success this time!

This is super reassuring! My husband, like you, had a paid (settled for less than full) medical debt. I was able to dispute for Early Exclusion on TU last month and his score jumped! I tried with EX and EQ and they both verified as accurate. I tried to dispute again in early June and they came back accurate again. I hope that in July I'm able to dispute and get it removed from the two CRAs once and for all!
How did you do the dispute? Directly through the website for EX and EQ? I want to increase my chances of getting this removed as close to July 1 as possible (b/c I heard they might linger for amonth or so until they get everything deleted) - what exactly did you say in the commnents? Anything special? I tried "paid medical debt <$500" but it still came back as accurate. I'm so bummed. We want the score boost for a loan!
Congrats to you for having them removed!
I reread the wording on the consumer financial site and they do mention "PAID IN FULL" so maybe that's why they are not automatically being removed. To be safe I'd say just pay the full amount if you want 100% certainty that it will be removed.
For whatever it is worth, I settled a medical collections last week and the lady mentioned that it will be off next month. 🤷🏻♀️ We shall see! I know they are not always honest, but she brought it up so will be interesting!
"paid in full" also means one is paid in full on a settlement and the account balance is brought to 0, they still have to delete it.

I am just following up that on the account I settled, I woke up this morning and it was completely gone from my Experian report!
