NCB Settlement

For those who have experience with NCB Management....About a week ago I settled an account with NCB (did not get a PFD), and they informed me that the account would show a $0 balance, paid in full for a lesser amount.  However, I noticed today that my CR updated, and it still shows the NCB account with a balance, albeit minus the settlement payment.  Should I be concerned or do I need to call them? Thanks

Re: NCB Settlement

I don't have any personal experience with NCB, but from experience I've had with other CAs, usually they first update the balance and deduct the settlement amount in the first cycle, and then update to zero in the next cycle.

Did you escalate it to a manager? I was able to get PFD with NCB recently. The front-end CSRs were adamant there was no PFD, but I ran it up the chain of command and was able to negotiate PFD (for PIF - but was a very small balance) no problem.

They may update to the settlement remaining balance and then the following update will be updated to $0. This is not uncommin and is for bookeeping purposes and to track that you settled vs PIF.

Good luck!

Re: NCB Settlement

I didn't escalate to a manager, but is it too late, now that I've already settled?

The leverage is gone once you have paid, but it cannot hurt to try anyway!

Re: NCB Settlement

I settled with them last year and didn't think about PFD until after reading this forum. Fast forward and I decided to ask for a goodwill deletion. I mailed a letter in and called to follow up. I was transferred to a supervisor who said that she would approve my request and I should see the update in about 30-45 days. I don't think that you've lost your leverage, you just have different options at your disposal. Try asking for deletion and see what happens.

@wdizzle thanks! Did you settle for a lesser amount or PIF?

Re: NCB Settlement

They accepted a 50% settlement. And marked is closed, paid in full with a 0 balance on my credit report.

Re: NCB Settlement

@wdizzle thanks!  If I may ask, how did you approach the conversation, did you immediately ask for a supervisor?  When I called before (shortly after I settled last year), they transferred to the agent who managed my account.  She of course shot me down.  I called a few weeks later and asked for a supervisor, and he also shot me down.  So trying to figure out the best approach when I call

Re: NCB Settlement

@seanf12 @I know my response is late but I wanted to acknowledge your question. I mailed a letter to NCB to ask for a deletion and when I called about the status the rep transferred me to a supervisor. In my letter I stated that I wanted to buy my first home as a single mom - which I think tugged at a few heart strings. I was honest and connected with the right person. I suggest sending in a letter and following up to demonstrate diligence. Good luck
