NFCU rebuild help

Hello All,
Another lurker here, enjoying all of the wonderful advice this forum has to offer. I was hoping some of you who have experience with Navy could advise me of the best steps to continue building my relationship with them.

I filed BK in Feb. 2010, discharged May 2010. I was leery of credit for a long time, and I only recently decided to get back in the game. Having never banked with Navy before, I opened a checking and savings with them on 8/25/18, and when I spoke with a welcome rep a few days later and discussed my desire to rebuild she thought I should apply for their platinum card. I did that and was approved with a $500 limit on 8/30/18, and have been using it responsibly.

Riding high from that card approval, I thought they might approve me for an auto loan since it would be secured by the car, but, unfortunately, I was wrong. The rep did offer, however, that I might like to try for their SSL. I applied and was approved, but had not yet read about the technique discussed here yet. I made the first couple of payments early, then after learning of the technique I have been trying to get it paid down, currently with a balance of 1053 on an initial loan of 4,100. Approval was on 9/22/18.

What I'd like is to get recommendations on how I should implement the next steps for requesting a CLOC, CLI on the plat, and a 2nd card in order to maximize limits at initial request. I am most interested in the CLOC, and, of course, would really like to get the 15K.

I also received a preapproved 0 BT offer from Discover about 2 weeks ago. I'm wondering what kind of limit they might offer on that as well, but I was surprised to see they are only offering 0 for six months, since I've been seeing a much longer term offered by them elsewhere. I wondered if I would do better to wait on Discover until I have built up the Navy a bit.

When I began with Navy I had no FICO available. Discover provided FICO (TU8?) was 645 on 11/6 and then 668 on 12/6. Navy provided FICO 9 (EQ) was 653 on 11/5 and then 720 on 12/5.

Any thoughts or advice you all could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Welcome to My Fico. 000welcome17.gif

Good for you. You can't do better than NFCU!

I have no experience with the cloc as I didn't feel the need to app for it so another member will have to help you with that.

I do have 2 Navy CCs and I follow all the DPs on this site.

When they start you off with that $500 CL, they are testing you.

I would say, use it a LOT and PIF each month. Continue to allow your score to rise.

At 6 months (many do it at 91/3 and you can but will have better results if you wait 6) you can do a CLI request and/or app for a second card. If Navy feels you have done well with that first card, that's when you'll get the large SL on a second card.

My first NFCU card was $3900 and at about 6 months I app'd for a second card SL was $25,000.

I wish you much success!!!

Happy New Year! newyear.gif
