Recently found out about NYs 5 year removal rule. I'm originally from NY but live about half the year or more (depending on work) in a different state. I use my 2nd state address for mailing and my license is also in 2nd state. Can I just update my mailing and bureau info back to NY and get items dropped off my reports?
EDIT: I've read through a lot of posts on here about it. Most of them are older posts and/ or the discussions simply end without much clarity. Also, I have 2 unpaid accounts left that are reported as CO and not sure how they'd be affected...
Law says you must be a current resident before during and after the baddie occured for a purge. And paid.

@FireMedic1 That was one of the many threads I read through. There's a lot of them and a lot of conflicting information (i.e. EX won't remove settled accounts but apparently they changed their tune as of '16-'17, you only have to be a current resident, only certain types of derogs can be removed, etc). They're mostly all older threads so I was hoping to find someone with a more current experience.
It worked for me with Experian this week, but I've always lived in NY
@Bmom I lived there for 30 years and moved out but started going back and forth for work purposes a couple years ago. I just crash at my uncles for the season while I'm there.
to be honest thats all i did was update my address to a new york address i dont even stay in new york i called and gave them a ny addy to add on to my report and waited a couple days and requested them to be removed per ny state law and all my reports are clear now i setttled all the account didnt have to pay in full
@Santaclausthereal Did you just update your address with the credit bureaus or did you update with the creditors too?
