I have seen 8 months reported on here ...
Hi,
I have been a member of Navy Federal since June 2017. I opened a $500 secured credit card account with them in March 2018. I PIF but let $50 report every month. I just graduated today to $2000 cl so 5 months. However, I also have an auto loan financed by them since February 2018, a SSL opened April 2018, and a CLOC opened May 2018. I went for optimizing my relationship with them to build my credit profile. It's not much but with a BK that's only 2.5 years old, I'll take it. I will reach my goal.
I've been a NFCU member awhile and have a secured card with them as well.
When you say "graduated" do you mean applied and got a CC not secured?
According to NFCU they do not transition a secured card into a non secured. (like discover will).
thanks

Graduated meaning my secured card transitioned to unsecured. NFCU definitely transitions. Please contact them again for more clarification if a representative gave you that information (odd). If you search the boards here, you will find that it (graduating to unsecured) happens a lot.
Thanks, I guess some represenitive gave me bad info. I didn't think they did that.

I do hear they graduate. That’s what they say anyway, but wouldn’t give me a time fram. I was also told once by one of their customer service people that you have to ask because it won’t happen on its own.
No, you should not have to ask for it to graduate to an unsecured card. This review/monitoring is a process that Navy Federal does regularly. It will happen on its own. If you request it, it will be a HP. Once your card becomes unsecured, you should have the ability (as well as they should suggest it) to PC your card to a more favorable card i.e. cashRewards or GoRewards card. Also, after graduating to unsecured, ask that your account be put on auto review so that they check montly for CLI which will be SP. Otherwise, you risk a HP when requesting a CLI and NFCU loves HPs.
