I received a letter from NCO financial stating that I owed $271.00 from taxes during the 2008 year. I have spoken with the OC and it was an oversight on my part. I do not want this reported on my credit. Right now I have $100 to pay and can pay the remaining balance in 3 weeks should I call the CA and let them know this or should I just send a letter with the money order of $100 now and state when the rest would be in. I just want to catch it before they report .
Please let me know
Thanks

What kind of taxes are these? Local, state, federal?

It is from the Kansas Dept. Revenue so I am assuming state taxes
Does Kansas have a state income tax? Could you have failed to file at some point? I'm not accusing you of that; just trying to pin down the reason.

I filed and it was money that I owed to that state I just forgot to pay that amount. So I know that I owe. When I spoke to the Kansas Dept of Revenue they stated they could not pull it back from the CA because it had been a year that passed. I am going to pay the amount I just want to set up something now so that it will not appear on my credit. Should I call NCO and tell them I have $100 to send them now and I can pay the remainder in three weeks or should I just send everything by mail.
Rather than possibly giving you wrong advice about this I will let others help you. Any time I think I have the process of debt negotiation down pat I invariably get it messed up.
Good luck to you.
NurseKB,
I would never ever call a CA. They record conversations. They will read into the fact that you don't want this hitting your report and report and the game playing could start right there. Write something, send a fax, whatever, but never speak to a CA on the phone. I got burned one time and lesson learned!

It wouldn't hurt to contact the Kansas Department of Revenue to see if you can pay them directly and have them get NCO off your back. Do not call NCO or any collection agency.
