I have a collection account that just appeared on my report. I have no idea what it's for. It's coming from a collection agency. I was not contacted by anyone concerning this.
I need to know how to proceed. I would like to call them today to find out what it's for, but don't knwo if that's a good idea.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Never ever never call a CA. Never. They always will record your call and will say and do anything to get you to admit to this debt, info of which can be used to sue later. And their word is not their bond. They will tell you anything to get you to pay.
Start by pulling each CR directly from the CRAs. You can do so for free once a year via annualcreditreport.com. Pulling directly from the CRA will provide more info on this, and that is what you need right now. It will give you full address info on the CA, more accurate dates, a drop off date (if on TU or EX), and an OC name.
If you recognize this debt, then look to see if you are past SOL. If you are past SOL or have the money to PIF, then fire off a DV via US Mail CMRRR. If they verify to your liking, then send a PFD for deletion.
