Re: New here - overwhelmed and have questions

Update:  I got approved for the Quicksilver AND got a $500 limit this time instead of the $300 I got with the first (Capital One Platinum).  That's a good sign right?

Do you think I should ask for an increase on the Platinum based on the credit limit I just got?  Or hold off for a little while?

I noticed Quicksilver has an annual fee.  I'm a little concerned about that.  If I'm not supposed to close credit cards ever, is it really a smart move to take on a card with an annual fee?  (too late at any rate since I did it but I'd still like to understand better)

Also - my husband only has one card which is the Platinum which is also a $300 limit but his is almost maxed out.  His credit score is about the same as mine (605-615) - again only going by what Credit Karma says we have.  Do you think I should have him apply for the quicksilver one as well?  That would be $80 in annual fees for us.  Is there another no fees card he should apply for?  What about an Amazon Card?  We use Amazon quite a bit so wondering if there would be any advantage to that.

I found a free credit counseling service through the university near us.  We have an appointment to go next week.  I'll report back on what they have to say and see if you all are in agreement or not!
