So.... I got tired of being dumb.... I think realizing the problem is the first step to recovery right? I made some poor, decisions in the past as far as credit (and life really) goes. So in the last month I have disputed a bunch of old stuff, its been removed, some based on the age and some based on innacuracies. I'll post the stats below, and if ya'll have any tips or pointers, please feel free to share!!! Ive been lurking on the site for a while but this is my first post!

I realize they arent huge victories, but to me, it feels huge haha.
Right now on my CR's I have the following negatives.
I have three different collections accounts:
Murrey Disposal from 2016 balance of 150
Credit One From 2016 $644
Progressive with a $0 balance because I paid it like 3 years ago
Charge Offs:
These kind of piss me off, I'm active duty military, there was fraud on my bank account during a deployment, and they shut off my auto pays based on this. I had no way of knowing it, based on our communicatins inability but the creditors dont give a rip. This is from when I was working on my credit the last time.
Cap One X2 ~2k each
Credit One~ 650
I have two car loans, both paid on time every month
I have a military star card with a balance of 3100 CL of 3150 ( I think this is the first thing I'm going to tackle)
I recently got approved for a Walmart CC~ CL 200
I have a Fingerhut account that I use like once a year just to keep it open, always has a zero balance.
The only other thing on my credit a Navy Fed vehicle Loan charge off that was settled for less, but that falls off in Feburary of next year.
Like I said if anyone has any tips or better approaches please comment! Any help would be awesome! I am hoping to buy a house Before my 35th birthday, January of 2020!

What I would do is tackle your baddies first. Try to negotiate a pay for delete with Murrey Disposal and Credit One. Send a goodwill letter to Progressive asking them to remove their item from your reports.
As far as the chargeoffs, do you have any written documentation of the bank fraud that you could submit to the creditors? I've never been in the military so I don't know how it all works but do you have access to any kind of legal help from the military? Like would the military hook you up with a lawyer who could help you write letters and submit documentation to those particular creditors to help you work something out with them? I mean you were a victim of fraud at a time when you had no means of doing anything about it. You are the victim here, not the bad guy. If you are able to get any free or reduced-price legal help then I would take advantage of it if I were you.
I think tackling your baddies would have more immediate impact on your scores than paying down your utilization on the military star card. Though you are right to want to pay that down as soon as you can.

So it wasnt actually fraud, in the sense that everyone thinks of it. I was deployed, made a stop in Guam on the same day I was in Washington state, and then was unheard from for 6 months. Since my bank is awesome at this fraud stuff, lol, they locked down my account until they could get a hold of me, which was half a year later. So theres no real documentation of it, which is what killed me when I called the creditors to begin with.
I have talked to both Murreys and Credit one, neither have an interest in PFD. My only options are to let them go, or pay them in full. Credit one is willing to take a Settlement. But at this point theyre both over two years old, would I be wrongto think that paying them would do more harm than good?
Military star has a few lates on it, but when I spoke to them, if I pay it down to less than 2k, theyre willing to remove the lates and just have those months as unreported.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Okay now that you mention this it makes sense to tackle this one soon. Removing the lates will be good.
As far as the Murreys and Credit One, I do think it would be a good idea to pay them. Even if they won't do a pay for delete upfront, you can always write goodwill letters to their executive offices after you have paid them and ask to have the tradelines removed from your reports. You will need to pay them before getting a mortgage -- it is my understanding that most mortgage lenders require all baddies on your reports to be paid or settled before they will give you a mortgage. A paid to $0 account always looks better on your reports than an account with a balance.

Welcome to the forums, and thank you for your service! ![]()
I would start negotiating a PFD with Credit One. Many users here have had success with them. I would also do the same with the $150 medical collection. Work your way from the smallest derogatory item to the biggest one. I would not focus on paying down current/good-standing accounts -- they are not hurting scores and can be dealt with later. Just keep paying the minimum to keep them that way.
Words of advice, don't run up the Walmart card because you will be taking on new debt and the interest rate on that thing is killer.
If it's any consolation, for someone with a lot of negative items, at least your scores are in the 600s category, which is not drastically far from 700, but that's just me. ![]()
