I'm a newbie here and I've just started working on improving my credit. I've been reading these boards for the last few weeks, and I'm ready to jump in, one thing at a time. The first item I am working on is a collection account assigned to AFNI by AT&T for $207 - I believe this account was paid in full back in 2009. I sent AFNI a letter stating that I dispute the charge and to send me validation of what the charge is for. Since I've started visiting these boards, I've of course seen sample letters with much stronger language that references specific points of the law, but I think its a valid DV letter, it was certainly sent within the 30 day time limit. I haven't heard a peep out of AFNI since I sent the letter, and its coming up on 3 months now. They still are reporting the collection to Equifax and Experian, I assumed TU as well. I tried disputing with Equifax which was an exercise in futility - they just came back stating that the creditor verifies they are reporting correctly.
At this point, what are my options? I can afford to pay it off, so could I still offer a PFD (just to be rid of it)?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Hi KitriPrincess,
Congrats to YOU on taking the first step on improving your credit.Credit repairing does take time.
But stick to it and you'll have less stress, and will be healthier. Also have a big on your face.
Yes you can send a PFD letter. Just remember some CA's agree to PFD's and others do not.
AFNI is mentioned quite often. I did a search for "AFNI success" and here are the results.
