Old Macys Change Off Question

Hi All!

Quick question! I had an old Unpaid Charge Off with Macys fall off my report last month. I want to try to get in again with them eventually just wondering if I contact them now to pay off my owed amount would it affect my report again?  (get added again or something crazy to that extent)

Thanks in advance for the sage advice!

Re: Old Macys Change Off Question

I'm not sure if you can get back in with them or not. Macys has a very long memory.

Back in 1990 I was in the middle of a divorce and defaulted on a cc with Burdines for less than $150.  That card was charged off. In 1994 I paid it off in full to the tune of $800 (collection fees, default interest and my not knowing what to do contributed to this bonehead move). Note, I paid the collections company, again that was stupid on my part.

Then Macys purchased Burdines 10 years later (2004).  Apparently either the collections company did not remit payment to Burdines or Burdines failed to correct it in their records. But because of this one purchase snafu I can not ever get a cc from Macys.  It's a good thing I don't like shopping there...

Just thought you should know so you can avoid the same mistake I made 25 years ago. See what I mean about a long memory?

Thats crazy! My account never went to a Collections Agency it was some $250 amount that I was young and stupid to let go. Macys is probably one of the only decent places to shop here for Men and lots of their good sales need a card to get it so I figured why not try to pay them off directly wait a few months and try to apply. Cant hurt too much to try.

Thanks again for the input.

Re: Old Macys Change Off Question

Yes you can get Macy's CC back, but how bad you want too!

Here is the problem, I was in the same predicament as you! I had an old Macy account and settled the old balance, then just like you wanted to get Macy’s card back. I called to reapply and was told that I could after reaming balance was paid. Now note that the account was settled and was removed from CR about a year ago.

Now the problem! Unfortunately Macy’s CC is issued by CitiGroup, they are by far the biggest idiots to deal with, after few phone calls to them I sent a check and clear the balance, then called Macy’s CC (they are very nice) and got approved for $800 all happy!

Two months later CitiGroup reposted the old account notating that was paid in full and because there was no record of that in my report, they posted as collection from the day was settled till the day I reapplied for new Macy CC.

Clearly this is an incorrect reporting as this old account was settled and was never in collection last year! However the department that posts this mistake dose not talks to anyone nor do they talk to their own CS! They gave me an address to explain this to them but they have not even acknowledge my attempt to contact them.

All of this because of the idiots reported something that was not needed. They try to do me a favor according to one of the reps. In result now that old Macy CC shows all the way back from 2004 and has affected my score significantly.

According to Transunion, it should come off in 3 months, but if not in other CRs and my new email to them dose not get repond, I have to take it up with Attorney General for false reporting that could take up to a year or more!

If I knew I had to deal with these idiots in CitiGroup for something this stupid, I would had stayed far away from Macy. Also CitiGroup dose a HP for CLI with Macy’s CC.

As I said before, you can get Macy’s card back, just make sure they don’t do you any favors.

Good luck!
