Opting out

I have seen some people on the forums in different sections talk about opting out. What exactly is this and what are the pros/cons of doing it?

Re: Opting out

You cna opt out of pre-approval offers. Supposedly it bumps your score 10-20 points, but I opted out and didn't see a bump.

Re: Opting out

In another section I saw someone post about it and I can't remember the post or I would go back to it, but they made it sound like if you opt out CA's can't soft pull you.  Like before doing a mortgage app I think is what it was, so they couldn't pull your credit.

Re: Opting out

I wish I could remember exactly how it was stated......

It made it sound like before you do a mortgage app you will want to opt out, almost made it sound like those old creditors that aren't on your report couldn't realize you were doing a mortgage app and start trying to collect again.

Re: Opting out

I remember reading what cookiebird is talking about. It wasn't related to credit score. It was about making it so CAs can't see that you've applied for a mortgage, because some times that triggers them to do things to your account and lower your score...
Starting Score: TU 634 EQ 614 EX 648 5/20/13
