Hi - I would like to send out a PFD letter. I have made a change to the opening statement and would like your input if it will put me in a bad position? Here's my revision:
"This letter is to inform you that the validity of this debt is disputed. I have never heard from you, nor from the original creditor prior to this letter dated November 6, 2008."
Thanks!
My wife has an account that went 30 days late in September 2003 and charged off in February 2004. It never went to collections, and the OC is still reporting (not really, they last reported in February 2004). Most information I find says that the SOL for credit cards in my state (PA) is 4 years, so this is past the SOL.
What wording should I use to use that fact to my advantage when writing a PFD letter? Thanks!
My cc account was just sent to CA this week. I owe 3,800 on the account. I spoke with the the CA and they agreed for me to make three payments for the PIF amount. She said that they have been in contact with the OC and that they would mark my account PIF and send it in writing. In the mean time I've been doing research for 2 days. First of all, they are not speaking with the OC, she even put me on hold to ask if they would settle for a lesser amount.
There being super nice, but I don't trust them!
Based on all the posts I've read, it sounds like I should send a PFD letter for the orginal debt 3,800. My question is...do I also send a PFD to the OC asking them to remove it also? If I do this, do I offer them money as well? Who do I owe the debt to, both of them? If I pay the CA and they delete it off of my CR, what happens to the other OC entry? Does it show me still owing after I've paid in full to the CA?
I also wanted to add that I called the CA and I haven't received anything in the mail stating what I owed. I called the OC and they refereed me to the CA. The verbal amount they gave me is the same as what the bank quoted me. I don't want it to occur any more fees so I feel I have a short time frame in which to take care of this. Can I still continue with the PFD based on our phone correspondence, or do I need to wait for something in the mail?
My other option would be to work with the representative from the CA and make the 3 payments, after she sends me something in writing stating that they will write PIF on my account. My question is...do I send a PFD or just go through the CA and trust that they will write PIF on my CR? Is there anything else I should make sure is clear? Can they go back on their word after it is in writing and I pay the agreed amount?
The payment option would really help me since I also have to come up with money to get my student loan in good standing which amounts to 1,900. I also think my student loan is pretty important to take care of since it is boarder line ready for collections and I don't want to deal with a CA again! It seems simple enough, but I'm still confused what to do. Any advice, please help!
The good news is, after I take care of these balances (in full), the rest is building my credit back up. I had great credit, but life circumstances happen. IF we could only convince our creditors of this. ![]()
hello all,
i'm new to the forums. i'm trying to pay off some derogatory accounts using PFD letters. do i have to send anything else other than the PFD letter?
thanks in advance.
first of all I recommend yo to start a new thread - this is long and confusing.
second, it would be good to know more about your intent and the status of these accounts.
for example, are they all owned by CAs or also by OCs?
are inside or outside of the SOL for your state (or where the debt arose)?
have you already obtained validation for all these tradelines?
can you PIF all of them?
what are the CA names?
good luck!
yes, you are right. i should start a new thread. my intention is to take responsibility for my mistakes, and start improving my FICO scores. i made some bad mistakes in college, and i am now only getting to addressing my credit issues. now, i desparately need a job; so i am trying to increase my credit score.
i live in VA, but i opened all the accounts when i was attending college in PA. I think the SOL in VA and PA are both 4 years, but i think they are for collections. Or does that mean they have to be dropped from my credit report in 4 years. i haven't obtained validations for any of them, but i know the ones i want to take care of are mine.
the big one i want to pay off is a CO from Discover, and the rest are CA's (Credit Protection Associates, and Accounts Recovery Bureau. my intention is to PIF in exchange for PFD. what are the exact steps that i should take?
