Re: PFD Example Letter

I've done tons of reading and still have a couple of questions that aren't clear to me.

I had a credit card closed by AmEx resulting in a plummeting fico score.  I am willing to pay in full, as I would have done so prior to it being closed had I actually received my mail.  Anyway, my questions are:

1. I still use the PFD saying this is not mine, and just use the info provided on my credit report, as if I never had prior contact?

2. PFD is appropriate for me, becuase I just want it removed that they closed the account, rather than me doing it, right?

Thank you in advance - I'm desperate to get this letter out becuase they keep calling me!

Re: PFD Example Letter

I am new to this site and this is my first post but from reading the threads I have learned so much.  Everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful! Hopefully someone can give me an answer, here goes: I have a "charged off as bad debt" from HFC for about $14,000, yesterday I received a letter from them (HFC) stating they would accept half of the amount ($7,000) if I paid within 10 days.  Now my question is can I use the PFD letter with them or is that letter just used once the debt is at a CA? I want to pay this off but I also want it completely off my credit I'm just not sure if the letter will work with the company itself.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Re: PFD Example Letter

I love the sample letter - need some advice about whether I'm ready for this step (PFD).

Received a letter from a CA that I had an outstanding and seriously delinquent debt from a cable company (OC) due to missing equipment.  Disputed the debt as equipment was returned long ago - however, since it was a couple years ago and I was unaware there was a problem, I no longer have the receipt (kept it for only about a year).  Contacted the OC to investivate, and they sent information on how pursue the investigation - meanwhile, contacted the CA to dispute and inform them I was working with the OC to resolve.

Hadn't heard anything from the OC, but today received a letter from the CA that they had contacted the OC and the debt was valid.  The payment address they have on the CA letter is for the OC - is that normal when a debt has been sold?

So far - nothing has shown up on my credit report - but given the countless examples I've read, I imagine it will show up soon.

My question is - do I continue to attempt to deal with the OC or do I deal with the CA?  As I have no remaning physical proof to back up my dispute, and even though I wholeheartedly disbute the validity of the debt, I would be willing to pay the missing equipment fee - just to clear this up as quickly as possible.  However, I have never received an actual "bill" from the OC.  Turns out the OC had an address that was invalid - even though I had a valid forwarding address with the post office.  But I never received a phone call or bill - even with my phone number not changing.  As a perhaps useless piece of information, I have a current account with the OC at my new location - can this be used as leverage?

I don't know if this is the time to use a PDF such as the one at the beginning of this post?  Or should I pursue some other means?  I have decent credit right now, and don't want this to lower my score when I have been a person that consistenly pays all of my bills on time.

If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it as this is the first time I am finding myself in any kind of situation like this and I'm a bit scared, anxious - and frustrated.

1. PFD should not be used as "not mine". Why would you pay if it was not yours!

2. Doesn't matter who closed.

Yep.. Just make sure you PFD with whomever is reporting.. regardless if that is the CA or OC.

Re: PFD Example Letter

I have an account, or had an account, with Capital One. It was sent to a legal company to collect the debt. I would like to send a PFD letter to get this deleted but I'm not sure which person I send the letter to.

The legal department is collecting the debt but Capital One still owns the account and is still reporting it on my credit report.

Also no one has sent me a letter to settle the account but was wondering what kind of success I might have by sending this PFD Letter and stating I would like to pay half of the balance?

Thanks for the help.

Re: PFD Example Letter

Hi, after I sent PFD letter to OC I received a phone call from NCO saying that HFC sold this debt to them.  Now they want to settle for $5678 but I have to pay by February 26 although they said they can make a payment arrangement for no longer than 3 months.  What's my best option here? should I try the PFD letter with NCO? the settlement offer says if I accept this offer my account will be considered settled, is this a good thing? your assistance is greatly appreciated.
