My husband has a small medical collection on his report that is about 3 and a half years old. We would like to pay it and try to get it off of his credit report. Would we be able to try to ask the doctor's office to recall the collection, ( it was sent to a collection agency and they are who is reporting), or will we have to do it through the CA? I'm worried that since the debt is so old the doctor's office won't be willing or able to help us. Thanks in advance.

For medical debt, try in the order given, good luck
1. Call the OC and ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
2. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
3. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help
Thank you for your advice. If by some miracle the OC agrees, then what? Do they notify the CA to remove the collection, or do I have to get in touch with them?

They have to recall the collection you dont deal with the CA at all. If they wont recall then you move on to deal with the CA directly. The OC is likely a good customer of the CA and when they ask to recall something its usually honored.
Oh ok, thanks so much. Hopefully they agree!
