Paid Convergent Collection (Comcast) On First Call/Contact - Did I Screw Up?

Hey everyone,

I've come quite a bit in my credit journey so far - paid off about $3K in debit, opened a C1 Platinum, became an AU, and my score has gone from the low 600s to low 700s in two months. I've been really proud, and am trying to be responsible.

This morning, Convergent/Comcast called me for a collection for a $430 debt. This collection has not shown up so far on my reports. I tried to ask for a PFD, but the agent said "you'll have to check with the bureaus" which made no sense. I paid the debt off immediately, confirmed payment, confirmed receipt.

I am really hoping this doesn't show up, and while FICO 9 doesn't take paid collection into account, I really don't want this to show up alongside my other paid collection.

Did I screw up here? Is there anything else I need to do, or should I call back?

Thank you all as usual!

I paid one myself to them a while back. I am still waiting on it to reflect paid to $0. Once that happens I believe that in 30 more days they will delete it.

I hope the deletion is coming soon! Did you pay it when they first contacted you, or did it show up and then you paid it?

I paid convergent before it appeared on my report. One customer service rep told me it wouldn't be reported and another told me it would be updated. That was months ago and it has never shown up on any credit report.

Starting score (January 2020): 454 (TU)
First goal (December 2020): 580 (TU)
Second goal (August 2021): 670 (TU)

Re: Paid Convergent Collection (Comcast) On First Call/Contact - Did I Screw Up?

I had a collection with them, and it reported to my Experian credit report only. I then called then and settled the $270-ish debt for $144. I asked for a PFD and they said they are not able to do it, so I just paid it. However on my report it never updated to settled in for lesser amount, etc. So I called them and they told me that they don't have any way of deleting or updating and I should call the credit bureau. So I filed a dispute with Experian saying I've paid the debt and it is not showing a paid. So Experian ended up deleting the tradeline on the same day. That was my experience with them.

I paid it after it had shown up. I was obstinate back then and didn't want to rebuild again...but this time it is for the best.
