Hi all,
Last night I PIF an open collect that was currently reporting every month (old utility bill). The OC accepted payment, sent a receipt, and updated my closed account. It was late on Friday so the help desk couldn't answer my questions or transfer me to anyone. Do I need to notify the Contract Callers Inc (CA) or will the OC pull the paid debt back automatically? I am going to call during business hours next week but wanted to see if anyone here had insight. Should I dispute it if still listed after a certain amount of time?
Honestly there was a thrill just to pay off the first negative item on my report.
Is the utility company the one reporting on your credit? If so, then it shouldn't matter that you paid the OC directly because they still ultimately owned the debt and had simply hired a CA to collect on their behalf.
Was it the utilty company reporting on your reports? Or both. If the CA wasnt reporting and just the utility company. No worries.
It is okay to pay to OC. You can request OC to delete the negative Tradeline from your Credit Report and it will improve your score.

First, congratulations on paying off your debt. And yes I would request a PFD. If not, not a big deal because you paid your CO and it should update that way on your CR's.
Thanks for the responses everyone!
To clarify the collection was only reported by the CA.
There's no guarantee they'll recall if from collections. They may just notifiy the CA that the debt has been paid and then the tradeline could be updated to Paid $0 balance. I have a bill from cox I just discovered and I called them and they told me I could pay but referred me to the CA about my question to delete it.
