Hello everyone!
I have several medical collections on my account. According to my credit report, they are set to fall off in March of 2019. At this point, I am willing to do a pay for delete to get them off my score. Would you recommend contacing them via email to do a PFD or should I stick with regular mail? Also is it better to do the PFD or wait for them to fall off since it will be next year. I am not sure how badly these are hurting my scores.
The collections are with First Federal Credit, which I have read is very good with deleting accounts once they are paid. Any help would be appreciated.
I would recommend giving them a call and first making your PFD offer to a live ear.
It is immediate, and more likely to obtain some response, giving you an idea of liklihood of success.
One debt collector, for example, currently has an official acceptance policy for PFDs if paid and the debt is at least two years of age.
If you wish to send in written form, then either snail or email would be acceptable.
Personally, I do not advocate the so-called HIPAA process, and would not take that convoluted and legally unsupported path.
I would recommend the more direct path of offering a PFD, which if accepted, will result in postive reporting of a deletion as opposed to a theory that asserts required deletion based on an unproven interpretation of the HIPAA statute.
However, it is of course up to you......
I honestly googled the HIPPA process and it seemed very confusing. At this point, they are relatively small amounts and the accounts are older (some are going on 5 years), I was hoping to either settle or offer a PFD if I pay the full amount.
I will try giving them a call and see what I can do. I have 2 different CAs that have more than one account, so if they will both accept the PFD then that will remove all the collections off my credit.
