I have a collections account with Credit Control Corp from a Cox Communications phone bill in Arizona from 2004. The amount is for $98.00. I honestly do not remember ever receiving a bill for this service, which is strange because I had an internet account with Cox Communications from 2004 to 2006 which I paid on time each month.
I sent a PFD letter and received a response validating the debt with the work order documentation. It said the service began in May, was discontinued in June and the first date of delinquency was August 2004. The statue of limitations in Arizona is 6 years. I now live in NY. What should my next steps be?
Should I research employee names and resend the PFD to other contacts at Credit Control Corp.? If I don't respond within 30 days does that further damage my credit report? My goal is the clean up all collections on my credit report as I plan to be looking for a new apartment in 6 months.

This is going to come off your report in about a year. I would leave it alone.

Hi aztony and welcome to the forums.
I don't think your PFD was rejected...assuming that the CA mailed their letter to your NY address. Just pay it and in accordance with NY's FCRA they will have to delete it from your CR because it would then be a paid collection over 5 years old.
No worries! ![]()
Great news. I just confirmed with the CRAs that that is indeed the case. And with that information I'm now disputing a paid collection from Capital One that the CRA rep (only reported on one, TU) said should have been deleted in March of this year (DOD March 2005) but Capital One is still reporting it.
Great help, thanks for the info!!
