Paying HSBC c/o question - no CA reporting

These two charge offs are on my reports right now:

HSBC BANK   Status: Transferred, closed. $638 written off.

Date Opened: 12/2006

Reported Since: 03/2008

Date of Status: 10/2009

Last Reported:  10/2009

Type:  Credit card

High Balance:  $638

Creditor's Statement:

Purchased by another lender

HSBC BANK  Status: Transferred, closed. $604 written off.

Date Opened: 03/2008

Reported Since: 03/2008

Date of Status: 07/2009

Last Reported: 07/2009

Type: Credit card

High Balance: $604

Creditor's Statement:

Purchased by another lender.

No CA is reporting on either of these.  A few years ago one was (I can't remember which right now, Arrow/Asset/Midland?)...I disputed their CAs on my reports and they deleted and sent me a letter confirming they weren't going to be reporting on the debts.

Fast forward to now.

I have learned that paying these will help my overall utilization AND my score...so I am getting prepared to pay at least one off in Jan, the other probably in Feb.

Is there anything I need to know/do/ask for before paying the OC on this?  Will they even ACCEPT payment seeing as they are reporting as closed/sold?

You would have to contact them to find out, my guess is that it's been sold to a CA and they no longer have any claim to the debt.  It never hurts to make sure though.

Re: Paying HSBC c/o question - no CA reporting

So...what happens if they say the CA that deleted from my reports still owns it?

And if I contact whatever CA they send me to -- don't I then run the risk of the CA putting a brand spankin new tradeline (2 actually) on my reports?   Or if they aren't reporting now are they likely to accept payment and STILL not report?

argh.
