The ones outside SOl, offer 10% Settlement. I had midland, I offered 10%, they countered with 25%.. I offered 20% they took it. ..
50% is way too much..
They acted like it was a grevious sin that we offered 25% today to start with. I will see if I can get them lower when I call back next week to get the offer in writing.

If it makes you feel better, try and record the conversation. A verbal contract is binding. Medical collections seem to be the easiest of the bunch to PFD.
That is my experience as well.
Can I get a number or email for midland? Will contacting them reset SOL, if debt is past it?
Thanks

This is the number we used: 844-236-1959. The danger in resetting the SOL is if you take responsibility/admit the debt is yours or make only a partial payment. In some states you have to actually enter into a new written agreement to pay though.
And on that note, I didn't sit in to hear DH's conversation with any of the CA's yesterday. I sure hope he didn't acknowledge the debts as his. I'd hate if we restarted the SOL and lost that card from our hand. I *think* Michigan is one of the states where it's only reset by a written agreement to pay though, but I can't seem to verify that anywhere.

You're the bomb, gdale6! Thanks so much!

Yeah, I love how they act offended that you're offering them five times what they likely paid for it in the first place. The Nerve!

Oh yeah, the guy tried to play the morally responsible card, too. Yep, responsible to the original creditor for the original amount. Not the scum of the earth collection company that is going to treat us like morons. This company in particular spent years harassing DH at his job (and it wasn't one where he had a desk phone). It'll all be over soon... Hoping once they are paid I can push for EEs. I'm pretty sure TU will go ahead and give us one, but the other two probably not, but it won't hurt to try.
