Please Help!!!!! Existing Collection

I have a medical collection that has been on my EX report since 2010, just got a new collection alert from Myfico, but it's for the existing collection with a report day as of 12/17/14 what can I do? This was reported back in 2010.

Is a new CA reporting the debt? Or is it the same CA reporting the same debt? First step would be to DV both CA's and find out who actually owns the debt. 

I had this happen with an old debt from 09 - Original debt was never sold, simply assigned to a CA - who was never able to succesfully collect from me. The OC then (9/14) assigned the debt to a new CA and for a while, both CA's were reporting the same debt on my CR's. I DV'd both, and CA1, who was no longer assigned debt, removed themselves from my CR's.

My only other guess is that it's the same CA, who has dusted off your file and is now actively pursuing their collection efforts. If your SOL is approaching, they may be readying themselves for a lawsuit against you so that they get a judgment on file before the SOL passes.

It's the same CA I disputed the account to no avail. So it does look like they are actively collecting on the acct now!

I would start negotiating a PFD, if you know it's a valid debt.

A simple google search by state. Nolo legal encyclopedia has a list for all 50 states and explains when SOL starts.

To add, if you disputed the debt and it came back verified, that is probably why the reporting date has been updated with the CRA's. The risk you run when disputing valid debts is that the CA starts actively pursuing collection efforts.
