Problems with Equifax reporting

I recently had written a goodwill letter to have a medical collection removed from my credit file and the CA agreed to have it removed via a phone conversation with them on March 12, 2011. It has since been removed from my Transunion(checked through myfico) and Experian(annualcreditreport.com) credit file. Equifax had still not removed the collection after 60 days so I filed a dispute claiming that the CA had requested for them to delete it and they should follow up to verify it's removal. Equifax closed the dispute in less than 5 days and said that they verified the item belongs to me. How can they do this? Is there anything else I can do? My Transunion score has improved to 766 and my equifax is at 671...really frustrating.

Re: Problems with Equifax reporting

Sounds like the CA verified it with EQ. I'd call the CA and thank them for the removal off EX and TU and kindly remind them to delete off EQ.

Re: Problems with Equifax reporting

I had a similar situation and this is what I've learnt. Sometimes it's not the Credit Bureaus fault, in this case Equifax. When Equifax verifies an account your disputing they send a electronic request to the creditor. If the name, social security number and birthday matches, then Equifax will claim ACCOUNT VERIFIED.

That can simply mean that the creditor still has your information in their system.  They may have agreed to delete their report to the bureau but the original account information can still be in their  database. My suggestion is to have the creditor write you a letter confirming they agreed to delete. Call Equifax dispute over the phone and get their fax number. Fax a copy of the letter from the creditor to Equifax, and mention in your letter that Experian and Transuinon has since deleted as well.  Or you can contact the creditor and advise them that Equifax is still reporting the account. Sometimes there can be glitches between the Credit Bureau and the creditors databases, I've been given many excuses and explanations in the past lol.

Faxing a letter has worked for me numerous times with much success. Good Luck!!!!
