So apparently after moving out of my unit, they decided to change me for the remainder of the month plus other miscellaneous fees. I refused, and they sent it to collections. 84 dollars!!! Now it has not effected my score due to being so low but it still shows on report. I called CA and decided on a PFD. They denied (Allied Interstate). So I told them flat out on the phone and email I would not pay since it has no bearing on my score. They replies they would return debt to OC. So my question is, if they return it, must they remove their entry on my credit report? And if so.. Can I then pay the OC to be done with it? I hate losing money, but can't risk the entry on report. 😲😵
Yes they will remove the entry from your report then yes I do suggest you pay the OC before they send it to another CA, you can then sue the OC if you believe you have a case.
There is no requirment under either the FCRA, FDCPA, or federal regulation requiring a debt collector to delete their reporting if the creditor terminates their collection authority.
It is a credti reporting guideline of the CRAs, and set forth in their joint credit reporting manual.
With no statutory basis, forcing deletion via the courts may be a bit tough.......
I have a collection to Public Storage for 58.00, and I never used the facility. SMH!

I don't think gdale was intimating at forcing deletion through the courts but rather adjudicating what appears to be an unfair bill. FWIW, the OP's chances of that would depend on whether the rental contract mentions partial months being pro-rated or not.
Just an update... Emailed CA again. They replied that yes, they would be removing the mark on my credit report. They stated within 15 days it should be gone. AWESOME!! Now dealing with Public Storage again is an even bigger problem! That company has no organizational skills whatsoever!!

Possible stupid question but when you rented the storage unit did you ever give them your social security number? If you didnt there is no way they can prove its your actual debt without the social. i have had numerous things removed because of not having a social security number on file with said Collections account over the years. just and FYI

A SSN is not required to tie a debt to someone, its number 6 in the ways to attribute an account to someones credit report. I find it interesting that you had collections removed because they had no SSN.
