I have been trying to get my credit report cleaned up and have several old medical bills. I have been working with the hospital and the collection agency to get dates and amounts. The hospital was great and sent me a list of the individual accounts and when I called we went over each account line by line and I have all but 2 of mine paid. I am trying to start on my husband's accounts now. The problem I am having is with the collection agency. They group all the bills into one account for a total sum. The problem with this is that they have accounts from 2005 that have already reported on my credit report for 7 years and have already gone away in that aspect. I finally got them to agree to send me a statement of the bills that they were showing, unfortunately they forgot about the paper reduction act and send each account individually for a total of 21 envelopes, most of which are from 2005 when my husband had several surgeries and we just could not pay. On the back of each of these statements is the disclaimer that unless you notify their office within 30 days that I dispute the debt they will assume the debt is valid.
My main question is: If I do not reply will these debts begin again and again be reported on my credit report? or If I respond will it reset these debts back in motion to go back on my credit report?
Some of the debts are not able to be verified because the hospital has updated their computer system and have even gone as far as going to tech support to check the archives and they still have no way to verify.
Also, every statement was in my husbands name, but the 2 amounts that I know are mine are included in this.
Thanks in advance for anyone's input on this
They can't be re-added if they have already ran their 7.5 course on your credit report.
Thank you, I guess I am a bit paraniod after working so hard to get things cleaned up.
